Canyonlands "Island in the Sky" in January

Verle and I decided that we needed to get out of the house yesterday. Probably because we needed to clean up our projects. So we got in the truck and headed up to Canyonlands. Verle has lived in this area all of his life and has never been to the "Island in the Sky" portion of Canyonlands. He really likes the "Needles" district and has been in remote areas of that part. We hiked around in about 6 inches of snow and got some wonderful photos of the area. It was a nice 1/2 day excursion. First we went to Aztec Butte were there are some granaries around the butte. We stopped at the Grand view and the famed Mesa Arch.

Cash and Kiva

Verle and I recently got a puppy, because Verle wanted a dog that did not have to wear sweaters and that would swim in the river. Kiva is a Golden Retriever and Yellow Lab Mix with the softest hair you could imagine. Cash's first experience with the puppies was over Thanksgiving. My parents have the Golden Retriever, so we took all 7 of the puppies in the house to see which one would join our family. Verle choose Kiva because she went directly to Cash and started to chew on him. Cash was a little frantic because there were so many puppies.
At Christmas we brought Kiva and home with us Cash just was not sure. The first night he growled a lot at her, but finally figured out that she can keep him warm at night. Cash is like a puppy again. He plays and chases Kiva all over the house and in the back yard. I think it was a good move to get another puppy.
